Teachers Start the 2018 – 2019 School Year

Dennis-Yarmouth teachers and support staff returned to school on Tuesday, August 28th, one week prior to the students’ first day.  Getting rooms ready, participating in professional development and catching up with colleagues signaled the end of summer.  Recognizing births, an engagement, an announced pregnancy, new teachers, new positions and receiving professional status was all part of Celebrating Mattacheese.

A school is not a school without the students.  Now we look forward to September 4th when we welcome our incoming 6th graders and welcome back our seventh graders. It’s going to be a great year!

Student Leadership at Mattacheese

Nineteen seventh grade students volunteered to come back to school early in order to give tours to incoming 6th grade students and other students new to Mattacheese.  They are part of the MMS Student Leadership program made up of 8 Executive Board Members and 14 Ambassadors. Thank you for your involvement. Sixth grade students will be invited to apply to become Ambassadors later in the year.

We look forward to welcoming  all of our students on the first day of school on Tuesday, September 4th!  See you then.

Four New Dolphins are Welcomed to Mattacheese!

Mattacheese is very excited to introduce our four new teachers to the MMS family. From left to right are: Ms. Ellis (EL), Ms. Jones (7th Grade ELA), Ms. Goydas (Reading) and Ms. Greer (6th Grade ELA).  As part of our New Teacher Orientation our staff gave the new teachers a “shower.” Learning, laughter and lunch was a great welcome and a perfect introduction for everyone.

Above and Beyond the Call of Duty!

In the blistering heat of summer Dr. Salas and Ms. Travers took it upon themselves to work on the MMS Fish Pond in the quad.  With the sun beating down, they pulled out overgrown reeds, back-washed the water and watched the frogs jumping in and out of the pond. There was a very active and happy response from the fish and frogs.

It is a wonderful thing when people see a need, roll up their sleeves and take care of it.  Thank you ladies for caring, giving up your time, and making a difference!
